Expert Insights for the GPIB-USB-HS Plus
"The GPIB-USB-HS Plus is a necessary device for interfacing your GPIB network with a computer. While GPIB is an old network bus developed by HP In the 1960’s, it is still widely used in automated test equipment including new power supplies, DMM’s, and calibrators. This device provides a high speed USB connection to your GPIB network and can be directly connected to your instrument, or network up to 14 others using GPIB cables."

National Instruments GPIB-USB-HS+ GPIB Instrument Control Device
The NI GPIB-USB-HS+ (Part Numbers: 783368-01 and 783370-01) in an IEEE 488 Device from National Instruments. This model can be utilized as a portable analyzer device for computers with Universal Serial Bus (USB) capabilities. This model permits the user to integrate a variety of instruments into their system through GPIB. The National Instruments GPIB USB-HS+ offers maximum IEEE 488.2 performance because it allows users to control as many as 14 programmable devices by capitalizing the Hi-Speed USB port without requiring a GPIB cable.
This GPIB Instrument Control Device reduces the overhead and offers better turnaround times in the user’s application. The device is fully compatible with NI-488.2 driver software. Thus, it provides maximum reliability for interfacing with GPIB enabled third-party instruments. The unique form factor of the GPIB-USB-HS+ makes it an ideal product for portable applications in which laptop computers or computers with limited or no internal I/O slots are used. Since it is a fully plug-and-play compatible device, the NI GPIB USB-HS+ can easily be installed, configured, and used because there are not any external DIP switches to adjust.
The addition of this IEEE 488 controller does not require restarting the user’s computer. The USB bus-powered device supports 3-wire and HS488 signaling and offers up to 1830 Kbytes/s and 7920 Kbytes/s while operating in 3-wire and HS488 modes respectively. In addition, this device comes equipped with a standard GPIB I/O connector (IEEE 488 24-pin) and a standard type A USB plug. While operating in typical conditions, this model typically consumes 80 mA of power, which can rise to 500 mA at +5 V.
The NI device weighs 153 g (including the weight of the USB cable), and measures 8.0 x 6.1 x 2.0 cm in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C, a storage temperature range of -20 °C to 70 °C, and non-condensing operating and storage humidity range of 10% to 90% and 5% to 95% respectively.
GPIB-USB-HS+ Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the device will still be available for purchase and repairs at Apex Waves.
